Don’t Forget Your Flu Shot

October 20, 2022, 4:47 pm

October is still a great time to get your flu shot if you haven’t already. Flu season typically starts in the fall and often peaks in December, so getting vaccinated now can help to reduce your chances of getting sick as flu cases increase. Flu shots are the best way to prevent getting the flu, so don’t forget to get yours!

How Bad is the Flu?

Flu season can be unpredictable year to year, and you never know how it will affect you if you catch it. Getting the flu can leave you feeling under the weather for about a week, or longer if it’s more severe. Anyone can get the flu, though some are more prone to serious flu-related complications than others. For example, people with chronic conditions such as asthma or heart disease may experience a worsening of their condition due to the body’s inflammatory response to the flu virus, regardless of the person’s age. However, age can also play a part in the severity of the flu, especially for those younger than 2 years or older than 64 years. Getting your flu shot can help to reduce your risk of catching the flu and therefore reduce the chance of flu-related complications.
