Learn About Bone Health at Free Lunch

On May 10, community members are invited to a free lunch – one that is full of calcium and vitamin D-rich foods – to learn tips and tricks to keep their bones healthy.

The information is important to have, as many individuals suffer fractures due to osteoporosis.

“Unfortunately, as we age, our bodies become increasing susceptible to suffering a break due to brittle bones,” says DeAnn Stowe, Fracture Liaison Services coordinator at CoxHealth. “We want to educate people so they’re aware of how to lessen their chance of a break, as well as what they can do to strengthen their bones as much as possible.”

While at lunch, attendees will also learn about CoxHealth’s Fracture Liaison Services, which works with adults ages 50 and over after a fracture to help them avoid other bone breaks in the future.

These services include a bone health evaluation with laboratory exam, and Bone Mineral Density testing. Additionally, the team performs risk assessments for fall and balance, social issues, and even home environments, where simple changes can minimize the risk for future fractures.

The lunch is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cox South, and registration is required by May 3. To register, call 417-269-INFO.
