June 9, 2017, 3:06 am

Cox HealthPlans and CoxHealth Network will once again be taking part in the annual Racin’ to Save Lives 2017 Blood Drive Competition between Mercy and CoxHealth.

The Bloodmobile Truck will be parked out on the West Side of our building from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday June 14th, 2017.

All of those donating during this event will receive a CBCO T-Shirt and a Gift from CoxHealth.  You will also be entered for an opportunity to win one of the following prizes:

  • Springfield Cardinals Tickets (2 sets of 4 will be given away)
  • Cox HealthPlans RTIC Tumblers
  • Cox HealthPlans Bumpster
  • Academy Sports Gift Card
  • Subway Gift Card
  • Starbucks Gift Card

Friends and Family are invited to join us, they too will be eligible for the giveaways.  And please don’t forget, if you currently are a platelet donor and are unable to participate that day, the CBCO has indicated that you can still be counted in the race, let the CBCO know that you work for COX and want your donation counted towards the race.

Some Facts from the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO):

Who can Donate: Anyone who is at least 16 years old (with parental consent), weighs at least 110 lbs and who is in good health may give blood every 56 days.

What to Expect:

Before the Donation a donor registration form is completed which includes personal information and health history, once your form is complete a confidential screening will be completed by a CBCO professional which will include a mini-physical (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and iron level will all be checked)

During the Donation you will sit back and relax in a clean and sanitized donor bed where a sterile single use needle is inserted to begin the donation.  The process takes around 5-10 mins for a single pint.

After the Donation refreshments are provided to help replace fluids and energy lost during the donation.  Please remain in the refreshment area for several minutes as your body adjusts to the donation.

In Southwest Missouri, Northwest Arkansas and Southeast Kansas there is a current need for all blood types with some donations more in need than others.  Please visit http://www.cbco.org/needs/ to see the Daily Update of needs in our area.

Thank you for Giving the Gift of Life to your Community!!
