What is the Southwest Missouri Heart Walk?
The Southwest Missouri Heart Walk is an American Heart Association annual community event. The event mixes fundraising and healthy physical activity to raise funds and awareness of the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers (cardiovascular disease and stroke respectively). Funds are used for research and development to improve cardiovascular health of all Americans. (American Heart Association’s Mission)

How is Cox HealthPlans involved?
For the past several years Cox HealthPlans has been involved in the annual event. Like the AHA, Cox HealthPlans is dedicated to creating and bringing awareness to our communities about healthy living. The Heart Walk, specifically, brings us awareness of heart disease and stroke. So each year, we will walk. Some of us walk for loved ones, some of us walk for ourselves and some walk, to walk and show support for those affected by heart disease.
Each year the community has an ambassador/survivor, this year’s survivor is Katrina (Read Katrina's Story) Without research and development the future wouldn’t be as bright for those that suffer from Heart Disease, Congenital Heart Defects, and Stroke.
Join us on April 29th and walk. And for those Cox Employees participating in the Healthy Living program the walk is worth 25pts. Just one more reason to get out and get moving, and it’s for a good cause so why not!
