Workouts you can Abs-olutely Do at Home

Crunch, crunch, crunch. Doing the wrong type of “crunch”? Try this test. If your fingers are discolored with an orange, cheddar-like tint, you might be doing too many of the wrong “crunches”. With the holiday season right around the corner, it might be time to change up the crunches. With these 4 basic abdominal workouts, you can “crunch” into action at home while saving both time and money. No equipment, fees, or schedules required.
- Basic Sit-up - With your feet flat on the floor, shoulder width apart, place your arms across your chest. As you crunch up and down, make sure there is no space in-between your back and the floor.
- Works out upper ab muscles. Repeat with 3 sets of 8.
- Plank Hold - As if you were going to do a push-up, place your elbows and hands flat on the floor, shoulder width apart. With your toes together and your legs straight out, press your body up as to make a line with your body.
- Works out your core, back, and upper arms. Repeat with 3 sets of 8 second holds.
- Bicycle - As if you were going to do a basic sit up, place your hands behind your head and bring your legs up to a 90 degree angle. Simultaneously bring your right elbow towards your left knee as you bring your left knee towards your right elbow. Repeat on the other side.
- Works out your upper and lower ab muscles. Repeat with 3 sets of 8.
- Side Taps - While sitting on the floor, bend your knees shoulder width apart and flex your feet (as if you were digging your heels into the floor). While keeping your back straight and stomach tight, tap both hands side to side. To increase difficulty, bring feet to a 90 degree angle and repeat workout.
- Works out your core and lower back muscles. Repeat 3 sets of 8 taps on each side.
